What does it take a do something as crazy as running through the snow in bare feet?

At times we face decisions that have the capability of changing our entire lives. Many times there are opportunities that we want to pursue, but there is just something holding you back.

Recently I wrote a song called ‘Away’. The premiss of the song a relationship between a guy and a girl. Basically the girl is walking out on the guy, and the he is faced with one of these potentially life changing decisions. The conclusion is that he did not take on the risk, but later wished he did.

Why is it that we are always so quick to hold everything in about how we feel? In the song the guy is talking about how he should have ran into the snow, even in he bare feet, to tell this girl how he had felt for the past year. Then again he thought there was another chance when she looked back at him, but on that cold day the breeze ‘took his breath away’ and he just couldn’t tell her how he felt.

Is it easier to get over rejection or to get over regret. Rejection gives us a tangible answer to what we are questioning; regret leaves us with an intangible question of the possibility.

Today, consider taking that crazy step into the cold snow with your bare feet.

Listen to ‘Away’:

When walking down a hallway you see an old friend and ask “how are you doing?” The person replies “just trying to keep my head above water.”

Why is it that we try so hard to keep our head above the water? Any swimmer can tell you that its extremely difficult to move anywhere when trying to keep your head above the water. Rather, to greatly improve efficiency, try swimming with your ‘head in the water.’

You will still need to ‘breath’, but this can be done at strategically planned times and rhythms. Also, if your breathing tempo is off, you will become inefficient. Taking too many breaths will slow you down, while too few will not provide enough necessary energy. Every swimmer might not have the same rhythm; it takes practice to nail this down.

At first, this may seem a little intimidating. It might not completely make sense. It might take some time and work to find your tempo. However, after this initial curve, there will be an incredible gain in efficiency by ‘swimming with your head in the water.’

Try ‘swimming with your head in the water’ in day to day life and find your rhythm to maximize efficiency.
